The Humane Society operates an animal shelter where all animals receive adequate food, water, shelter, and medical attention. The Humane Society secures grants and donations to fund a spay/neuter program for individuals needing financial assistance, responds to calls from the public concerning abused or neglected animals, and engages in public outreach programs. The animal shelter provides stray holds and adoption services for dogs and cats. Typically, stray animals are held for a minimum of 7 days in order to give their owners time to reunite with them. It also helps ensure the animal is in good health before being placed for adoption. After the stray hold, the animal is put up for public adoption.
We approve adoptions over the phone by responding to a completed adoption application. Please go to our website schspets.org and complete an online application and someone will contact you. Our adoption fees are $150 for shelter dogs and $200 for Paws in Prison trained dogs, and $75 for cats. Volunteers are here Monday - Friday from 11 to 5 to answer the phone and help with adoptions.
Our adoption fee is $30.00 and half price discount for those over 55 years of age. The animal is required to be fixed within 60 days of adoption, as required by city ordinance. If a specific type of animal is not available at the time, a special request can be entered into our “Pets Wanted” binder. This binder is maintained to enable contact with a potential adopter when an animal matching the request becomes available at the shelter.
